selectively permeable (cell membrane) Flashcards
1
Q
What structure of the cell is selectively permeable ?
A
The cell membrane.
2
Q
What does it mean when it says the cell membrane is selectively permeable?
A
This means that it will only allow the passage of smaller, soluble molecules through the membrane.
3
Q
What can move quickly through the membrane?
A
small molecules e.g. oxygen, carbon dioxide and water .
4
Q
What relies on the presence of channel forming proteins so they can move through the membrane in a pore?
A
slightly larger molecules e.g. glucose
