Selection of teeth Flashcards
3 values to consider in size
- Combined width of all 6 anterior teeth
- Height of central incisors
- Width of central incisors
Shade
Colour is described using
Value (lightness)
Chroma (saturation)
Hue (colour)
Darker teeth are usually selected for older patients
Munsell colour system
Shapes
Square
Tapering
Ovoid
3 basic forms teeth are manufactured in
Anatomic
Semi-anatomic
Non-atomic
5 factors affecting occlusal balance
CCCIO
Condylar inclination
Cuspal inclination
Compensating curve
Incisal guidance
Occlusal plane
Lingualized occlusion
A method to achieve bilateral balanced occlusion with an attempt to maintain the esthetic and food penetration advantages of the anatomic form while maintaining the mechanical freedom of the non-anatomic form
Advantages of lingualized occlusion:
- Esthetics is maintained.
- Efficiency is maintained.
- Mechanical freedom of occlusion from the non-anatomic teeth form.
- Mechanical stability due to centralized forces.
- Bilateral balanced occlusion is readily obtained for a region around centric relation.
- No lateral forces due to one contact point.
- Lingualized occlusion can be used with all morphologic ridge contours.
- Buccal cusp tilt allows escape way for the bolus of food.
Balanced occlusion
Bilateral, simultaneous, anterior and posterior occlusal contact of teeth in centric and eccentric positions
Centric relation
Condyles in an anteriro-superior position against posterior slopes of the articular eminence where mandible is purely restricted to rotary movement
Advantages of balanced occlusion
Denture stability
Prevents unnecessary forces on ride to avoid soreness and increased ridge resorption
