RVD

A

Established from tip of nose to the chin while patient is wearing the upper rim

Patient moistens the lips and says the letter ‘m’

OVD

A

Once the RVD has been established the lower rim is placed in the mouth and adjusted until it contacts evenly the upper rim at a vertical dimension of occlusion some 2–4 mm less than the established RVD.

This provides for a freeway space of 2–4 mm, and establishes the OVD
