What is swash direction?
Wind

What is backwash direction?
Gravity acts on it
Falls back onto sea at 90
How are spits created?
coast changes direction at an estuary
LD continues to move sediment across the inlet
river doesn’t let spit completely join to the coast on the other side river has energy to move sediment
What is a bar?
formed when a spit grows across a bay
lagoons often form behind bars
What are beaches?
made from constructive waves- move depositing sand or shingle in land
more gently sloping beaches tends to be formed from sand, steeper sloping beach is formed from pebbles
What are tombolo’s?
spit that stretches across mainland and joins offshore islands, causes a formation of a tombolo
What are cuspate forelands?
forms when sediment deposited across a bay- caused by LSD trapping of sediment until new land is formed
