Bays and headlands Flashcards
How does discordant coastlines effect coastlines?
They retreat backwards
Less resistant rock and exposed resistant rock causes a change in shape of coastline
What does the change wave approach effect?
It increases the rate of erosion on headlands
This creates headland features
caves, arches, stacks and stumps
What is geological structure?
This is the shape of a coastline changing because of the surrounding geology
What are joints and faults?
this is the geological structure of rocks
caused by deformation/stress placed on them from tectonic processes
True or false
Is sedimentary rock more vulnerable to erosion and weathering?
True- as erosion and weathering puts force onto weaknesses found in the layers of rock.
What is a Dip?
This is the angle which the rock layer forms (horizontal)
referred as a dip- land or sea
True or false? do bedding planes that dip towards the sea have a gentler cliff profile?
True- yes they do
This creates the cliffs to be more vulnerable to mass movement (rock fall)
True or false? do bedding planes that dip towards land create a steeper cliff profile?
True
They are also vulnerable to erosion processes
(hydraulic action/ abrasion)
