Lithology and vegetation Flashcards
What is bedrock lithology?
existence of metamorphic sedimentary and igneous rock that affects rate if erosion recession on a coastline
What is a igneous rock?
formed from crystallisation of a magma
resistant to erosion + weathering
crystals inc strength of rocks
What is a sedimentary rock?
formed from build up of compacting/hardening of sediments into layers over time
formed over a shorter geological scale- more susceptible to erosion
What is a metamorphic rock?
formed by change in structure of sedimentary +igneous rocks
caused by variations of heat and pressure
resistant to erosion
What are sand dunes?
continuous supply of sand
powerful winds transport sand and obstacles trap sand (plants)
Explain the two types of plants?
Xerophytes- withstand periods of dry weather
Halophytes-withstand high concentrations of salt from sea water
Explain how colonise works
embryo and foredunes= sea rocket and sea crouch
deep roots tolerate high concentrations of salt
What are yellow dunes?
marram grass, long deep roots salt tolerant
What are heathers?
grey dunes, higher rates of humus
