What is a Sediment Cell?
Distinct areas of a coastline, separated from other areas by well defined boundaries like headlands/deep water.
Definition of a Sediment Cell:
They are defined as a closed system that sediment particles are transported within.
- Very small particles are able to move between cells.
- Subdivided into 11 sub-cells across England and Wales.
What is Dynamic Equilibrium?
The balanced state of a system when it’s inputs and outputs are equal. Sediment cells help the coastal environment achieve this.
Negative feedback is…
Process of self regulation which restores equilibrium to a system.
Positive Feedback…
Process by which an initial change in a system is amplified and causes further change.
