State the duties of the OOW at Security Level 1.
A
- Ensure gangway and roving patrol watches are relieved properly and are knowledgeable of standing and special order.
- Ensure you know how to get in touch with the Master and Ship Security Officer in case of an emergency.
- Ensure all watches know the OOW and how they can get in touch with him.
- Ensure all watches are in the proper uniform or overalls and present a neat and orderly appearance.
- Ensure all watches are equipped properly to fulfil their duty.
- Ensure standing orders are understood.
- Ensure that all visitors are in possession of a valid badge and that they have been entered into the visitors record sheet.
- Ensure visitors are escorted to and from those being visited.
- During the course of rounds ensure accommodation entrances secure
- Check padlocked areas + hose boxes.
- Ensure you are knowledgeable of the current security level and the measures that have been implemented
- Depending on security level, all baggage to be searched prior to boarding.

List the additional duties if the security level is raised to Level 2.
A
At security level 2, the SSP should establish the security measures to be applied to protect against a heightened risk of a security incident to ensure higher vigilance and tighter control, which may include:
- Assigning additional personnel to patrol deck areas during silent hours to deter unauthorised access;
- Limiting the number of access points to the ship, identifying those to be closed and the means of adequately securing them;
- Deterring waterside access to the ship, including, for example, in liaison with the port facility;
- Increasing the frequency and detail of searches of persons, personal effects, and vehicles being embarked or loaded onto the ship;
- Escorting visitors on the ship;
- Providing additional specific security briefings to all ship personnel on any identified threats, re-emphasising the procedures for reporting suspicious persons, objects, or activities and the stressing the need for increased vigilance; and
- Carrying out a full or partial search of the ship.
