  • Firstly check the vessel document of compliance to see if the type of DG can be carried.
  • Check the cargo stowage and securing manual for the ship to see where to stow it.
  • Check it has a DG declaration note. SITPRO note.
  • If in a container then it comes with a vehicle packing certificate.
  • Look it up in the IMDG Code and read up about its characteristics.

Explain the duties of the OOW when pallets of DG are being loaded.

A
  • Pre load go into warehouse and check condition of all pallets looking for leaks or tears.
  • Double check that it agrees with the paperwork supplied.
  • Make sure the cargo gear you are going to use will not cause damage to the pallets.
  • Go into hold and check the pallets conditions after loading.
  • Ensure the fork lifts do not damage cargo when stowing.
  • Ensure crane operator competent.
  • Enforce no smoking, maybe.
