Axial Section Interpretation
- Always looking from an inferior perspective (feet to head view)
- Anterior = top; Posterior = bottom
Brachiocephalic Veins (Innominate Veins) Location
- Located superiorly within the superior mediastinum
- Lie anterior to the branches of the aortic arch (collateral branches of the aortic arch lie posterior to the left branch of the brachiocephalic vein)
Appearance of Right Brachiocephalic Vein in Axial Cross Section
Vertical, appears circular in axial cross-section
Appearance of Left Brachiocephalic Vein in Axial Cross Section
Oblique, appears oval shaped in axial cross-section

Course of the Right Pulmonary Artery
Travels between the superior and middle secondary bronchi
Course of the Left Pulmonary Artery
Ascends and lies superior to the left superior secondary bronchus
Location of the Oesophagus
o Lies posterior to the trachea and the primary bronchi
Location of the Pulmonary Trunk
o Anterior to the right and left primary bronchi
