what does BM mean
benchmark- permanent object that has a known elevation
what does TBM
temporary benchmark- moveable object that has known elevation
what does TP mean
turning point- fixed object used when determining the elevation of the other points. *think of turning points as stepping stones in your level survey
what does HI mean
height of instrument- the elevation of the line of sight established by the instrument
what does BS mean
backsight- reading on the rod when held on a known or assumed elevation, used to figure out the HI
what does FS mean
foresight- reading on the rod when held at a location where the elevation is to be determined, used to establish the elevation of another location, often turning point
what does IFS mean
intermediate foresight- reading on the rod when held at a location where the elevation is to be determined but not used as a turning point
the three grading purposes for a site
- reform the land surface to make it compatible with the land use
- establish and control drainage patterns
- define character/aesthetics of site
bioswale
surface contours meant to collect and slow rainfall runoff while directing water to an outflow point
groundwater recharge
practice of directing rainfall or snowmelt into designed or natural spaces
plant behaviour due to insufficient drainage
reduced vigor and growth (ROOTS!)
chlorosis
root death or damage
signs of disease infection
