Section 6 Coordination And Response Flashcards
What is the difference between receptors and effectors
Receptors detect stimuli
Effectors produce a response
What makes up the nervous system
Spinal chord Brain Sensory neurone Relay neurone Motor neurone
How do neurones work
They transmit high speed electrical impulses which produces very rapid responses
Recall the reflex arc
Stimulus -> receptor ->
sensory neurone -> relay neurone -> motor neurone -> effector -> response
What is the definition of homeostasis
Homeostasis is the maintenance of a constant internal environment.
What is vasodilation and vasoconstriction?
Vasodilation is when the blood vessels close to the skin widen to allow more blood to flow near the surface to cool down.
Vasoconstriction is when blood vessels near the surface of the skin stop blood flowing near the surface
