Section 3 - Element 2 Flashcards
ventricular fibrillation (VF)
abnormal, fast, irregular beat of the heart
Majority of the heart arrests are due to VF, at least initially.
Electrical defibrillation is a well established treatment. Automated external defibrillators are devices that deliver the necessary controlled electric shocks to terminate VF
what is primary survey (DR.ABC) and what is it assessing?
the primary survey is concerned with assessing the casualty for life threatening injuries and taking immediate and appropriate action at each stage;
D-Danger - is there any danger to yourself or the casualty
R-Response - is the casualty responsive?
A-Airway - is the airway open and clear?
B-Breathing - is the casualty breathing normally?
C-Circulation - is there any severe bleeding?
Before starting CPR what would you say to your helper after you have completed DR.ABC
(case: not breathing, unconscious adult)
“Can you call me an ambulance and tell them we`ve got unconscious adult who is NOT breathing. I am about to start CPR and bring me back a defib”
or
unconscious child that is not breathing
