When do the Regulations require employers to use a safety signs?
when there is a significant risk to health and safety that has not been avoided or controlled by other methods.
What are the four types of signs
1) prohibition
2) warning
3) mandatory
4) emergency, first aid. (signs giving information)
Prohibition sign
red- a sign prohibiting behaviour likely to increase or cause danger (e.g. no running, no diving, shallow water)
Warning sign
yellow, orange - a sign giving warning of a hazard or danger (e.g. danger: electricity)
Mandatory sign
blue - a sign prescribing specific behaviour (e.g. eye protection must be worn)
Emergency escape, first aid sign
green - a sign giving information on emergency exits, first aid, AED location or rescue facilities (e.g. Emergency exit)
