What is a right?
A right is something that has been granted by statute
What is a freedom
- Freedom is the power to act without unfair interference by a state or an individual
- Freedom is not created by law, nor is it absolute
- It can be limited by a statue if the limitation is justifiable to the courts.
What are our fundamental rights and freedoms?
- freedom of conscience and religion
- Freedom of thought, belief, opinion, and expression
- Freedom of peaceful assembly
- Freedom of association
Curtailed
Curtailed means to be cut down, reduced, or limited
What does freedom of conscience and religion signify?
Means that we have the right to praise and worship whom we choose, and that we can declare our faith without fear.
What is a limitation of conscience and religion?
we are given freedom of religion, nevertheless, if the parents religion is harmful, or not in the best interest of the child, the religious practices may be curtailed
What is Peaceful assembly, and association
We can gather together, and we can organize ourselves into groups for whatever reason we want.

What is freedom of thought, belief, and expression?
This right means that individuals may hold and express their thoughts, beliefs and opinions without the fear of reprisal
Reprisal:
Retaliation, a counterattack, People attacking you
Limitations of Thought belief, and expression?
We are taught that we have the right to express our beliefs, nonetheless, We are prohibited from doing many things because they are hurtful, highly controversial, and cause panic
I.e (R v Keegstra, yelling FIRE in a school setting when there isn’t)
