how do you define equality
I define it as people being treated equally given the circumstances
What is equality to the carter of rights and freedoms
equality is such an essential aspect of the Canadian charter of rights and freedoms, because it is connected to absolutely everything such as case studies, and it is such an important topic on the charter.
What is the true definition of equality here in Canada
We often think that equality means treating everyone exactly the same, however equality is not just that. we treat people differently as long as it is fair to prevent discrimination.
What is discrimination
It occurs wen someone acts on a stereotype or a prejudice. People act upon their beliefs (prejudice put into action)
What does discrimination lead to
It leads to unfair treatment
imposes a penalty upon people for invalid reasons, preventing them from being a equal part of society
Stereotypes
Means: “set image”
The generalization about a group of people
This can be positive but it is normally negative
Name some stereotype examples
- woman are bad drivers
- All boomers are stuck in the 50/60s
- All Americans carry a gun
- MIddle aged white man can’t dance
Prejudice
Means “prejudgment”
A preconceived opinion belief or attitude about a group (a already set oppinion)
- prejudice is highly ignorant
- when you believe a sterotype
Why is discriminations illegal but not Prejudice, or stereotypes
- it is illegal because it actually violates the human rights code.
