    enforcement
    Ie: Policing (Fed=RCMP, Prov=OPP, Mun=Ottawa Police) and Court System

-To protect rights and freedoms
Ie: Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms

-To provide protection for all members of society
Ie: Labour laws, contract law, etc.

-To help resolve disputes peacefully – creates a sense of order
Ie: Rock/paper/scissors, neighbourly disputes, mediation/arbitration, etc.
