Describe the content, use and inspection regime of cargo gears.
- Initial testing - when fitted.

Describe the condition when SWL can be exceeded. (M.O. 32)
a) Under test.
b) A single sheave is rigged as a double whip / gun tackle so that the load is suspended from its head fitting. Load not > 2x the SWL.
c) It is a crane/ derrick that meets all of the following:
- occasional lifts
- approved by Master or Owners
- x exceed proof load
- load is inspected by a competent
person and agrees the ops can
proceed.
What are the proof loads for different lifting appliances?
The formula to calculate blocks, tackles and purchases. (Effort and Efficiency calculations.)
Effort = W + n x fritional % x W / V.R
Efficiency = M.A / V.R x 100%
When to discard wire rope under M.O. 32?
A wire rope must have at least 114 constituent parts, relating directly to a 6/19 wire rope as its minimum standard. The total no. of visible broken constituent wires in a length of rope equal to 10x its diameter must not exceed 5% of the wires constituting the rope.
