Section 12: Cloud and the Datacenter Flashcards
What is a Hypervisor?
Specialized software that enables virtualization to occur
What is a Network Attached Storage (NAS)?
Disk storage is delivered as a service over TCP/IP
What is a Storage Area Network (SAN)?
Specialized LAN designed for data transfer/storage
What is a Fibre Channel (FC)?
Special purpose hardware providing 1-16 Gbps
What is a Fibre Channel over Ethernet (FCoE)?
Removes the need for specialized hardware
What is the IP Small Computer System Interface (iSCSI)?
Relies on configuration allowing jumbo frames over the network. Built using Ethernet switches (<10 Gbps)
What is Software Defined Networking (SDN)?
Provides the administrator with an easy-to-use front end to configure physical and virtual devices throughout the network
What is Voice over IP (VoIP)?
Digitizes voice traffic so that it can be treated like other data on the network.
What is a Private Cloud?
Systems and users only have access with other devices inside the same private cloud or system
What is a Public Cloud?
Systems and users interact with devices on public networks, such as the Internet and other clouds.
What is a Hybrid Cloud?
Combination of private and public
What is a Community Cloud?
Collaborative effort where infrastructure is shared between several organizations from a specific community with common concerns
What is Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS)?
Allows outsourcing of the infrastructure of the servers or desktops to a service provider
What is Software as a Service (SaaS)?
User interacts with a web-based application
What is Platform as a Service (PaaS)?
Provides a development platform for companies that are developing applications without the need for infrastructure.
What is Desktop as a Service (DaaS)?
Provides a desktop environment that is accessible through the Internet in the form of a cloud desktop or virtual desktop environment
What is Elasticity?
Attempts to match the resources allocated with the actual amount of resources needed at any given point in time
What is Scalability?
Handles the growing workload required to maintain good performance and efficiency for a given software or application
What is Multitenancy?
Allows customers to share computing resources in a public or private cloud
What is Infrastructure as Code (IAC)?
Enables managing and provisioning of infrastructure through code instead of through manual processes
What is Orchestration?
Process of arranging or coordinating the installation and configuration of multiple systems
What is Automation?
Relying on computer script and can be used over and over again without mistakes
What is a Virtual Private Network (VPN)?
Establishes a secure connection between on-premises network, remote offices, client devices, and provider’s global network
What is a Private-Direct Connection?
Extends preexisting, on-premise data center into the provider’s network to directly connect to your virtual private cloud network
What is a Data Center?
Any facility that businesses and other organizations use to organize, process, store, and disseminate large amount of data
What is the Core of the Three-Tiered Hierarchy?
Consist of the biggest and fastest and most expensive routers.
Considered the backbone
What is the Distribution/Aggregation Layer of the Three-Tiered Hierarchy?
Provide boundary definition by implementing access control lists and filters
Layer 3 switches would be used
What is the Access/Edge of the Three-Tiered Hierarchy?
Used to ensure packets are being converted to frames and delivered to the correct end point devices when needed
Use regular switches
What is the Application Layer of the SDN?
Focuses on the communication resource requests or information about the network as a whole
What is the Control Layer of the SDN?
Uses the information from the applications and decides how to route a data packet on the network
What is the Infrastructure Layer of the SDN?
Contains the network devices that receive information about where to move the data and then performs those movements
What is a Management Plane?
Used to monitor traffic conditions and the status of the network
What is a Spine and Leaf Architecture?
An alternative type of network architecture that focuses on the communication within the data center itself
What is East-West?
Refers to data flow within a data center
What is North-South?
Traffic that enters or leaves the data center from a system physically residing outside the data center
What is a Co-located Data Center?
A data center environment owned by another company
What is an On-Premise Data Center?
A traditional, private data infrastructure usually located in the same building as the main offices
What is a Cloud-Based Data Center?
Migrating company data out of own server and data centers and into a cloud service provider’s servers and data centers
