Acting
when used in conjunction with the title of a rank of the uniform force shall mean that the member so designated is temporarily assigned to perform the duties of that rank during the period assigned in accordance with the terms of the collective agreement
Senior Officers
Fire Chief, Deputy Fire Chiefs, and Assistant Deputy Fire Chiefs
Officer in Charge
The most senior Officer in rank on-duty and in command of one or more fire fighting crews or divisions
Senior Officer in Rank
An officer of any rank who has served the longest period in such rank
Subordinate
A member who stands lower in rank or classification than another
Members
The term “member(s)” includes all personnel of all ranks, or classifications in the fire and Emergency services
Official Channels
The forwarding of , or transmitting of Official Orders, correspondence or messages through the intermediate officer in ascending or descending order of rank
All personnel memos
Photocopied or printed memos issued to all members of Fire and Emergency services, issued by the Fire Chief or Deputy Fire Chief.
Fire Fighting Personnel Memos
Photocopied or printed memos issued to all members of the Fire Fighting Division by the Assistant Deputy Fire Chief.

Daily Report
Captains shall prepare the daily Report in the Daily Station Log as an accurate and complete history of their Station for a complete shift. The roll call shall be called not later than 0700 hours and 1700 hours (unless times are otherwise ordered by the Fire Chief) Members shall report for duty mentally and physically fit and of neat appearance. Any exception to the rules shall be reported tot he on-duty DC.
When a member is off sick or on compensation
it shall be so noted in the Daily Station Log, exclusive of days off
In case of a member failing to report for duty….
the Officer in charge shall record the particulars on an Incident Report and forward the report through his superior Officer tot he Fire Chief
Affect the Transfer of any member
Captains shall not, in any circumstance affect the transfer of any member without the permission of the DC.
Captains shall act with respect and courtesy, and

They shall not allow members to speak….
….disrespectfully about or to superiors
All rise and remain standing until acknowledged
They shall ensure that whenever a visitor, member of Council, Fire Chief, Deputy Fire Chief, Ass. Deputy Fire Chief or Division Chief of the Department visits the Station, all members shall rise and remain standing until acknowledged.
Visitors in Dorms
Visitors shall not be allowed in the dormitories, unless accompanied by the Officer in charge.
Visitors requested to leave the station..

Political Meeting or Gathering
They shall ensure that no political meeting or gathering of persons shall be permitted in service buildings, except on permission from the Fire Chief
All apparatus and equipment located in their respective Stations
They shall be held responsible for all apparatus and equipment located in their respective Stations and shall see that the same is kept in proper order and ready for immediate use.

….listing all Department property under their charge. They shall prepare, on forms provided for that purpose, an inventory of all equipment, supplies, furnishings, etc. forwarding it to the Div/C of A&M on the 15th day of September of each day.

Apportion of Duties
They shall apportion duties among their members as fairly as possible.
Be at their Stations
They shall, at all times while on-duty, be at their stations, except when absent at fires, emergencies, with special leave or for Fire Dept. business.
Members to leave the Station premise
They shall not grant permission for nay member’s on-duty to leave the Station premise without their DC permission.
All members respond to emergencies
They shall ensure that all members on-duty under their command respond to emergencies when response is made by their apparatus.
When responding to an alarm
- ride beside their driver
- ensure the driver complies with the Highway Traffic Act
- and that the driver knows the location of the alarm and responds by the most direct route
Sirens on apparatus.
To guard against collisions and accidents, sirens on apparatus shall be sounded at short intervals at the Officers discretion, keeping in mind such as schools, hospitals, pubic assembly halls, etc. to avoid panic.
No sirens or red lights shall be used when…
…responding to know check calls or when returning from an alarm or when “filling in” at another Station. However, red emergency lights may be used with discretion if poor visibility or traffic conditions prevail.
Apparatus involved in an accident or breakdown…
When apparatus is involved in an accident or breakdown, the Comm Op shall be notified immediately, with a short description of what has occurred.
Accident where damage exceeds $1000.00 or where there is personal injury
Captain shall see that the apparatus and driver remain at the scene until police have obtained the proper information
-notify DC asap
Accident where damage is less than $1000.00 or where there is no personal injury
The Captain shall be responsible for the driver remaining at the accident to obtain the necessary information while the apparatus proceeds to the alarm. In all cases, the Corporation insurance form must be completed and forwarded immediately to the Fire Chief
The first Captain to arrive at an alarm shall…
…exercise command and control or may pass command over to another arriving officer until a Chief Officer arrives and takes command.
Captains in charge of Pumper crews….
shall in normal circumstances be with the nozzle at fires to direct its movement under the direction of a Chief Officer.
Traffic and Hose lines
Captains shall see that traffic is not allowed to cross over hose lines. However, when a fire is under control, they shall clear the streets as quickly as possible to facilitate movement of traffic.
Apparatus taken into a blind end.
Fire apparatus shall not block, nor be taken into, a lane having a blind end, unless ordered by a chief Officer
Captains assigning a member to fire watch.
- Members shall be instructed to allow no one to enter the premise.
- OFM, Service Investigator or the Senior Police Official at the scene, upon presentation their approved credentials shall be allowed to enter.
- The owner or occupant of the premise under investigation shall not be allowed to enter until sanctioned by a Senior Officer or Arson investigator
Articles of Value found at any alarm.
…shall be turned over by the Captain to the Chief Officer in charge.
-A receipt must be obtained or the transfer duly witnessed for any article given to the owner or to a Police Officer.
When a shift is at an alarm, the Officer of the relieving shift shall
- call the roll at the appointed time
- notify the Comm Op and standby for further instructions from the officer in charge of the alarm.
Hydrant malfunctions or used
They shall notify the Comm Op whenever a fire hydrant malfunctions, and when used during cold weather (October 1 to March 31st) and the Region Water Works shall be notified.
Info required for the completion of the fire report or CAD system reports.
They shall telephone to the DC such info, as may be required for the completion of the fire report or the CAD system reports.
If after returning from an alarm, Service property is found missing, broken or out of order….
…..such details shall be recorded on a City of Brampton Incident Report, as well as, a Defective or Missing Apparatus Report, forwarded to the DC with copies sent to Admin and the Div/C of A&M.
