Secondary Survey Flashcards
What should you do first?
Obtain full set of history and observations of patient
What should you check second?
Check the head for any bleeding,
Check airways to ensure patency and no loose teeth
Look for any bruising, fractures, burns
Check pupil sizes
Inspect nose and ears for fluid leak
What should you check third?
Check the neck for any deformities and veins etc
What should you check fourth?
Check chest for any injuries, wounds, bruising. Assess rate, depth and quality of respiration. Ventilate if required, listen look and feel front and back of chest
What should you check fifth?
Check abdomen for any bruising/wounds. Check front and back, feel for any tenderness
What should you check sixth?
Check the pelvis for any blood loss/ note bruising
What should you check last?
Extremities such as motion and sensory of lower limbs. Assess for any fractures, find pulse in lower legs and skin temperature and colour
