What is Glanzmann’s thrombasthenia?

A

No GPIIA/B on the platelets so fibrinogen can’t bind to stabilise platelets

This causes seconday bleeding with normal platelets and clotting factors. Increased TT

What is Heamophilia?

A

X linked recessive

No FVIII - Haemophilia A

No Factor IX - Haemophilia B CHRISTMAS DISEASE

Symptoms - Increased APTT and purpura

Treatment - Desmopressin for haemophilia A as stabilises FVIII.

It can also be treated with transaxemic acid

What happens with a Vitamin K deficiency?

A

Vitamin K is needed for factors 2,7,9,10 so you would get

Increased APTT, PT, TT

Eg, liver disease

A

Warfarin is a vitamin K antagonist so would cause prolonged PT (INR)

A

Overstimulation of clotting factors so they are all used up causing simultaneous clotting and bleeding
