Serged Seam
(1/2” SA, 2.5 SL) 1. Close seam RST. 2. Press open 3. Serge both edges
Clean Finished Seam
(5/8” SA, 2.5 SL) 1. Close seam 2. Press open 3. Press under 1/8” and edge stitch
Flat Fell Seam
(3/4” SA, 2.5 SL) 1. Close seam WST. 2. Trim 1 side to 1/4” 3. Fold long side to meet short side, fold over. 4. Edge stitch.
French Seam
(1/2” total SA, 2.5 SL) 1. Sew small 1/4” WST. 2. Flip work, sew RST at large 1/4”.
Narrow French Seam
(1/2” total SA, 1.5 SL) 1. Close seam at small 3/8” WST. 2. Trim SA to small 1/8”. 3. Flip work and sew RST at a large 1/8”.
Slot Seam
(3/4” SA, 2.5 SL) 1. Baste seam at 3/4” RST. 2. Sew contrast to the seam at 1/8”. 3. Serge the seam. 4. Topstitch 5/8” from original stitch line. 5. Remove basting.
Self Bound Seam
(3/4” SA, 2.5 SL) 1. Close seam RST. 2. Trim 1 SA to a 1/4”. Turn other side under to meet. 3. Edge stitch through the seam allowance.
Piped Seam
(1/2” SA, 2.5 SL) 1. Press bias strip staggering edges 1/8”. 2. Set bias RST on sample, edges together. Sew at 1/2”. 3. Set other side RST, sandwiching the bias strip. Sew at 1/2”. 4. Trim 1/4” off of second bias SA. 5. Serge closed.
Corded Seam
(1/2” SA, 2.5 SL) 1. Sew cord into bias with a zipper foot. 2. Same as piped seam, but use a zipper foot. 3. Grade both sides, 1/8” and 1/4”. Serge outer seams closed.
Bound Seam
(1/2” SA, 2.5 SL) 1. Close seam and press open. 2. Insert one SA into binding with narrow edge on top. Edge stitch. 3. Repeat.
Hong Kong Bound Seam
(1/2” SA, 2.5 SL) 1. Close seam and press open. Press narrow side of binding open. 2. Line up edge of folded binding to seam, fold 1/4” away from edge. Sew in crease. 3. Fold binding under with the fold open. Stitch in the ditch.
