Q

how does eustatic sea level rise/fall occur

A

climate colder
precipitation falls as snow and is locked up as ice on land
slows hydrological cycle
less water returns to ocean
eustatic sea level fall

climate warmer
ice on land melts
eustatic sea level rise as water returns to ocean

Q

how does isostatic sea level rise/fall occur

A

when water is locked up on land as ice in glacial periods
land sinks due to weight of ice
causing relative isostatic rise of sea level on a local scale

when ice on land melts
isostatic rebound of land
relative isostatic fall in sea level to land

occurs different rates eg north Uk rise more than south due to having more ice in glacial periods and last to melt
