SDG 2 Flashcards
SDG 2 description
SDG 2 seeks to end hunger and malnutrition by ensuring all people have access to a reliable food supply. This also involves assisting farmers to improve their agricultural practices in order to increase yield and sustainability.
How it can work towards improving human development globally?
Human development
• Well nourished children can attend school and concentrate effectively to develop to their full potential. Through going to school they will have enhanced knowledge and increase their capabilities.
• Well nourished adults will have adequate energy to be able to work productively to earn income for a decent standard of living. Through this ability to attend work they are also participating effectively in the community.
How is SDG 2 related to SDG 3?
- Through ensuring to end all forms of malnutrition, children will be well-nourished which leads them to have more developed immune systems and are significantly less likely to die from communicable diseases such as diarrhoea, malaria and tuberculosis reducing under 5 mortality rate.
- Through ensuring to end hunger, pregnant women will be well nourished making them less likely to suffer serious pregnancy related conditions and less likely die during pregnancy, reducing the maternal mortality rate.
- Through ensuing to end all forms of malnutrition ,newborn babies who are breastfed are more likely to survive the first year if their mothers are well nourished, reducing the infant mortality rate.
Why is it important?
If people are suffering from malnutrition they have less energy and will weaken their immune system leading to higher morbidity rates from infectious diseases.
children and pregnant women are most at risk of poor nutrition as hunger and malnutrition is the biggest contributor to child mortality in developing countries
How it can work towards improving health and well being globally?
Lower levels of malnutrition in both children and adults improves immune system functioning and therefore reduces mortality rates of of disease such as malaria, diarrhoea .
Through the provision of adequate diet maternal mortality rates can be reduced from deficiency , diseases, therefore reducing rates of low birth weights and consequently U5MR.
