A

Smoking kills an estimated 15 000 Australians each year.
Costly to individuals and the government. Smoking costs Australia $31.5 billion in social (including health) and economic costs each year.
• Smoking affects vulnerable population groups disproportionality ,with people living outside major cities and people from Indigenous and low socioeconomic backgrounds being more likely to smoke.

Effectiveness of smoking policies

A

A 10 per cent rise in price of cigarettes resulted in a 3.2 per cent decline in prevalence among low-income smokers.
In 1985, 32 per cent of Victorians were regular smokers. By 2012, this had fallen by more than half, with just 13 per cent of Victorians smoking regularly.

A

it arranges foods into four layers:
•Two foundation layers containing plant-based foods (vegetables and legumes, fruit, grains) that are high in vitamins, minerals and carbohydrates (including fiber)

  • A middle layer that includes dairy and its alternatives, as well as the lean meat and poultry, nuts, seeds and legumes food groups which are high in calcium and protein
  • A top layer that includes mono unsaturated and polyunsaturated fats, which should be consumed in small amounts.
