A

Screening is a process of identifying individuals who may be at higher risk of disease or condition amongst a large population of healthy people.
Screening provider offers information, further tests and treatment.

Diabetic eye screening

A
  • From age of 12+
  • every 1 to 2 years
  • check for early signs of DIABETIC RETINOPATHY
  • no symptoms show till an irreversible stage
  • early detection= timely treatment and follow up care to reduce risk of Vision loss by 95%

Cervical screening

A
  • All women age 25-64
  • smear test to check health of cervix
  • not to test for cancer but taken a sample of cells to check for HPV
  • HPV: Human papilloma virus

Bower cancer screening

A
  • 60-74 years but expanding to make available for 50-59
  • use at home test kit : faecal immunochemical test
  • collect small sample size of poo and send to a lab to check for blood
  • sign of polyps or bowel cancer
  • screening can prevent bowel cancer
  • colonoscopy offered if blood is detected

Abdominal aortic aneurysm screening

A
  • offered to men at 65
  • ultrasound screening
    Often cause few or no obvious obvious symptoms
  • if it’s bigger it could burst and cause life-threatening bleeding in tummy
  • about 8 in 10 people who have burst AAA die before getting to a hospital or don’t survive surgery

TREATMENT:

EVAR: insert graft within aneurysm though small groin incisions using angiography. No risk of surgery

Open repair: surgery of a do Ben to replace aneurysm with graft
