Scientific Procedure Flashcards
Accurate
Results close to true answer
Precise
Not spread out results and cluster closely
Resolution of an instrument
Smallest change it can measure
Random error
Fluctuations in experiment due to unpredictable differences caused by human errors in measuring
How to reduce effect of random error
Repeat readings and find mean
Systematic error
Measurement is wrong by same amount each time, repeating wont change it
Zero error
Systematic error caused by using equipment that isnt zeroed properly
Repeatable
When repeated under the same conditions by the same investigator, gives similar results.
Reproducible
if similar results are obtained by different investigators with different equipment.
Anomalous values- what should be done
xamined to try to identify the cause and, if a product of a poor measurement, ignored.
