Science YEE2 8th- Salts Flashcards
Metals react with acids to form:
salts and hydrogen gas
Metal carbonates react with acids to form:
salts, water, and carbon dioxide
Filtration
separate insoluble impurities from the salt solution
Evaporation
remove the solvent (usually water) to obtain solid salt crystals
Crystallization
formation of pure salt crystals from a saturated solution
Salts
Composed of cations (positively charged ions) and anions (negatively charged ions)
Prepared through various chemical reactions
zinc (Zn) metal reacts with hydrochloric acid (HCl) to form zinc chloride (ZnCl2) and hydrogen gas (H2).
Zn + 2HCl → ZnCl2 + H2
calcium carbonate (CaCO3) reacts with sulfuric acid (H2SO4) to form calcium sulfate (CaSO4), water (H2O), and carbon dioxide (CO2).
CaCO3 + H2SO4 → CaSO4 + H2O + CO2
