SCIENCE WORLD WORK BOOK PRACTISE TEST Flashcards
water disappearing from a bowl left out in the sun is an example of what?
evaporation
what is condensation
water changing state from vapour into liquid
when water seeps into the soil and rocks it is called
groundwater
what is grey water
water used n showers, baths, washing machines and laundry tubs
oil is a non renewable resource because
once it is removed from the ground it cannot be replaced
name three renewable energy resources
solo, wind, hydroelectricity and biomass
what is an example of a non renewable energy source
coal
what is geothermal energy
energy that is generated from heat stored in rocks
electricity generated from the energy in falling water from dams is called
hydroelectricity
nuclear energy is
non-renewable energy
what are some living resources
animals, trees
what are some non-living resources
oil, water air minerals and soil
why are Minerals are non-renewable resources
because once they are mined they cannot be replaced
What are some ways of reducing water use
- grey water to water our gardens - this will reduce the amount of water used to keep gardens alive especially when there are water restrictions. The grey water will then return to the ground through the soil
draw a flow chart that describes the steps in water purification
- water from reservoir
- add alum to water, this gets rid of materials
- the materials settle to the bottom of the tank
- filtration, removes and remaining materials
5 chlorination, disinfects the water, removing any harmful bacteria
