Science Volcanoes Flashcards
It is a hill, mountain or fissure from which molten or hot rocks with gaseous materials are ejected.
Volcano
Volcanoes typically for near the margins of (blank).
Tectonic plates
It is also a crater formed by removal of pre-existing materials, or hill or mountain formed by accumulation of ejected materials.
Volcano
What does PHIVOLCS stand for?
Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology
It is a process wherein molten rock materials are emitted or ejected in the form of flowing masses of lava or fragmental particles called pyroclastics with gas from a crater, vent, or fissure.
Volcanic eruption
(Blank) are formed differently, vary in the activity, in their shape or form, in the kinds of eruption they produce, and in the volcanic hazards they bring.
Volcanoes
Volcanoes vary on formation in what factors?
Shape or form, its eruptions, and it’s volcanic hazards
How many named and unnamed volcanoes does the Philippines have?
300 Volcanoes
The 3 Categories of Classifying Volcanoes
Active, inactive, and potentially active.
In 1997, PHIVOLCS introduced a third category.
Potentially active
CLASSIFICATION | it had eruptions in historic times supported by numerous historical accounts;
Active
CLASSIFICATION | it has no record of eruptions and it’s form has been changed by agents of weathering and erosion with formation of deep gullies.
Inactive
CLASSIFICATION| if it is geologically young-looking, which suggests it possibly erupted in the last 10,000 years. However, no historic record of it’s eruption can be found.
Potentially Active
A volcano is said to be (blank) as suggested by:
(1) Low degree of erosion and dissection,
(2) Presence of young vent features, and
(3) Lack or have very little vegetation cover.
Geomorphologically young
