Q

Super nova

A

Huge explosion caused by fusing iron in the core robbing it out of energy and it collapses and explodes making all elements heavier than iron

16
Q

Why don’t large stars last as long as small stars

A

They fuse the elements they have much faster than small stars due to the increased gravity and increased pushing against the gravity

17
Q

Where are heavy atoms made

A

Atoms heavier than iron can only be made in super nova. This they are all made in super nova

18
Q

What is left behind after a super nova

A

Depending on the mass of the original star either a neutron star or a black hole

19
Q

What elements do low mass stars produce

A

Turns hydrogen into helium up to carbon nitrogen and oxygen

20
Q

What elements do high mass stars produce during their life

A

Heavier elements up to iron so carbon, nitrogen, oxygen, silicon, and all in between up until iron

21
Q

What event causes high mass stars to produce more types of elements

A

When a star fuses iron it will explode with a super nova and produce all elements heavier than iron. It will also send its material out into other nebula

22
Q

How are we made out of stars

A

All elements heavier than helium are made inside stars. We are made out of those types of atoms therefore we are made out of star stuff

23
Q

Mr Meyers favorite fact

A

Supernova spread out those heavier elements they “seed” with other nebula with heavier elem which then form new stars and planets
