Science Test #3, Set 12 (DNA) Flashcards
What is the role of DNA in an organism?
DNA contains the genetic instructions needed for an organism to develop, function, and reproduce
Describe the shape and structure of DNA
DNA is in the shape of a double helix. The stucture is composed of deoxirobose, and phosphate. The nitrogen bases are composed of adenine, thymine, cytosine, and guanine.
Explain how information is encoded in DNA
DNA encodes information by the sequence of its four nitrogenous bases, adenine, thymine, cytosine, and guanine along the DNA strand
Explain how DNA, chromosomes, and genes relate to each other.
Genes are related to DNA because genes are a small portion of DNA. DNA is related to chromosomes because chromosomes are just DNA coiled tightly together.
