Science Skills Flashcards
What does Aim mean?
states what an experiment it trying to find out.
What does Hypothesis mean?
Prediction on what will happen in the experiment.
What does Method mean?
Step-by-step plan explaining how the experiment is carried out.
What do results mean?
Collecting and processing data
What does conclusion mean?
Explains what you can understand from the results of the experiment, and should relate back to the aim and hypothesis.
What do Accurate results mean?
Refers to how close a measurement is to the true or accepted value.
What do Reliable results mean?
Refers to how close repeated measurements are to each other.
What are independat variables?
refers to the variable that is changed in an experiment.
What are dependent variables?
Variables being measured in a scientific experiment. Its values depend on the changes in the independent variable.
What are controlled variables?
Any variable that is constant and unchanged throughout the experiment.
What are the functions of a test tube?
To mix and or heat small amount of solids and liquids.
What are the functions of a beaker?
Collecting, mixing, and heating chemicals.
What are the functions of filter paper and funnel?
To separate solids from liquids.
What are the functions of a conical flask?
to collect filtered liquid, and to hold liquids that need swirling to mix.
What are the functions of a tripod?
Support beakers and other apparatus for heating.
