Genetics Flashcards
What is a Nucleotide?
the simple repeating units which make up DNA. Made up of a base, sugar, and phosphate.
What is Karyotype?
Picture of chromosome in a cell, and is used to check for abnormalities
What is Gene?
Section of DNA that contains the instructions for a particular feature.
What is a Genotype?
Combination of alleles that an organism contains.
What is a Phenotype?
Physical traits that occur because of alleles.
What are Alleles?
different versions of a gene. each gene has 2 alleles.
What are Chromosomes?
thread-like structures located inside the nucleus, Carries DNA and transfers genetic material from parent to offspring.
What is DNA?
Deoxyribonucleic acid is an organic chemical that contains genetic information and instructions for protein synthesis.
