science revision forces Flashcards
what is friction?
a force which slows objects down.
what happens if the friction is greater?
it will slow the object down faster
what will happen if the force is stronger than the friction force?
the object would be harder to slow down you have to increase the friction force.
what is the force called when an object is moving through a liquid and slows it down?
drag
what are drag and friction forces?
contact forces.
what are drag and friction forces measured in?
newtons (N)
what is it called when a spring stretched?
extension.
what is it called when a spring stretched?
extension.
what is it called when a spring stretches past its lymit?
elastic limit.
if the object obeys Hooke’s law what relationship will it have?
linear relationship.
what is a moment measured in?
Newtons (N)
what is the pivot?
the middle of the object
what is it called when the object is balanced?
equilibrium.
what is gas pressure caused by?
gas particles colliding with the walls of the container it’s in.
what happens if the gas particles collide with the walls of the container more?
the pressure gets higher.
what happens if you increase the temperature of the gas?
the pressure will be increased and the particles move faster.
what is atmospheric pressure?
is the pressure which air exerts on you all the time near the ground there is more particles weighing you down. the pressure will be greater.
the higher you go what happens?
the atmospheric pressure is smaller so you don’t get weighed down as much.
what is the pressure called in a solid?
stress
what happens if the area is where the gas is going over is greater?
the pressure is lower.
what is the equation of pressure?
pressure= force -/- area
why does the deeper the ocean gets the pressure increases?
because the pressure depends on the weight of the water above.
what happens if there is more water molecules above?
the pressure will be higher.
