Science Revision Flashcards
What is photosynthesis?
Photosynthesis is the chemical reaction that takes place for the plant to survive . Carbon dioxide, water, and light are all needed for photosynthesis to takes place. It happens in the leaves of the plants.
What is the word and the symbol equation for photosynthesis?
Carbon dioxide + water —> Glucose + oxygen
CO2 + H2O —> C6H12O6 + O2
The process of movement of water in plants is called…?
Transpiration
Where does photosynthesis take place in a plant?
In mitochondria
What is the difference between Aerobic and Anaerobic respiration?
Anaerobic respiration is there’s no oxygen or without oxygen.
Aerobic respiration is the opposite of photosynthesis
What are the equations of Anaerobic respiration and aerobic respiration?
Aerobic = Glucose + oxygen —> carbon dioxide + water
Anaerobic respiration = Glucose —> Lactic acid + energy
What are the 3 factors of photosynthesis?
Carbon dioxide (CO2) Light intensity Temperature
What are the different ways that plants use glucose?
Respiration Stored as starch Store as fats for seeds Strengthen cell walls Makes proteins
What are palisade cells used for?
Palisade cells are packed with chloroplasts, which means lots of photosynthesis
What is the stomata for?
The stomata is the openings in the underside of the leaf
What is the spongey mesophyll for?
The spongey mesophyll is a layer that contains air spaces for gases to diffuse into
What is the equation for speed?
Speed = distance / time
The equation for time
The equation for distance
Distance / speed = time
Speed x time = Distance
What is the equation for force?
Force = mass x acceleration
What is the equation for moments?
Moment (Nm) = force (N) x distance from pivot (m)
What is friction used for and what are 3 examples that it’s useful?
Friction is a resistive force that slows things down and tries to stop objects sliding past each other.
Breaks, gripping objects, tyres
What are 3 examples of friction that aren’t useful?
Slipping or sliding, moving parts in machines
What is air resistance?
Air resistance is a type of friction caused when objects move in the air.
What is the other name of air resistance and water resistance?
Drag
How many elements are there in a periodic table?
There is about 100 different elements.
What is the units for speed, force and acceleration?
Speed = m/s Force = N (Newtons) Acceleration = m/s2
What does a distance time graph show?
A distance time graph shows the speed of the object travelling.
What is the line called on a distance time graph?
Gradient
What are the 3 particles found in an element?
Protons, electrons and neutrons
Where is the particles (protons, neutrons and electrons) found? What is their mass and their charge?
Protons are found in the nucleus, it’s relative mass is 1 and it has a positive charge.
A neutron is found in the nucleus, it’s relative mass is 1 and it’s charge is neutral.
An electron is found on the shell, it’s relative mass is 1/2000 and it’s charge is negative.
What is ionic bonding?
Ionic bonding gives and takes electrons between a metal and a none - metal.
What is a covalent bond?
A covalent bond is made when non - metal atoms share electrons with another non - metal atom.
What is metallic bonding?
Metallic bonding is the bonding of 2 metals.
What do we call the floating electrons in metallic bonding?
A sea of electrons
Would it be better if there was no friction?
No. If there was no friction there would be no earth.
