Science Quiz Topic 4 Lesson 3 Flashcards
The genetic material that carries information about an organism and is passed from parent to offspring
DNA
What are the four bases of the genetic code?
adenine (A), cytosine (C), guanine (G), and thymine (T)
Briefly describe the process of DNA replication
The DNA untwists then is broken in half. Next the nitrogen bases pair up with the bases on each half of the DNA. At the end of the replication two identical DNA strands are formed.
How many different amino acids are in the human body?
20
What are the two main types of RNA?
Messenger RNA and Transfer RNA mRNA tRNA
How is the separation of DNA like a zipper?
Like a zipper DNA breaks along the center into two halves.
Where does the process of protein synthesis start?
The Nucleus
Which organelle does the actual assembly of the protein occur at, during RNA?
Ribosomes
The relationships between the letters from DNA to RNA
G+C C+G A+U U+A T=A
What is the difference between the two main types of RNA?
Messenger RNA carries the copies of instructions for the assembly of amino acids from DNA to the ribosomes. Transfer RNA carries amino acids to ribosome during protein synthesis.
