Science Quiz Topic 4 Lesson 1 Flashcards
Difference between dominant and recessive alleles
dominant allele is always expressed or seen. A recessive allele is only expressed when in a homozygous pair(bb).
How recessive and dominant alleles are represented
Dominant alleles are represented by capital letters and recessive alleles are represented by lowercase letters.
Describe Mendel’s first experiment
Transferred the male flower part to the female flower part to get a desired trait. He wanted to see what would happen with pea plants when he crossed different traits like short and tall, yellow seeds and green seeds. Etc.
What is it called when an organism has the same alleles
Homozygous
The difference between a genotype and phenotype
phenotype is the physical appearance of an organism, while the Genotype is the genetic composition of an organism.
What condition is needed to occur for an offspring to express a recessive trait?
both (recessive) alleles must be present to express the recessive trait.
