Science - Physics Flashcards
Inclined Plane
A platform the is angled at an acute angle to the horizontal
mass
The amount of a particular object measured in Kg or g
Weight
The mass of an object multiplied by the force of gravity (9.8m/s2) and measured in N
Normal Force
The equal and opposite force created by the ground or touching surface opposing gravity which keeps objects from falling through the earth
Acceleration
The increase of velocity per second
Force Parallel
If an object sits upon an inclined plane, the force that pushes the along the plane is the parallel force
- It is calculated as F=mgsin(theta)
- to look at it in a geometrical and engineering sense the weight can be split into two components: parallel and perpendicular, the Parallel is the sine aspect and the perpendicular is the cosine aspect
Force Perpendicular
The opposite of the normal force which the aspect of the gravitational force which pushes into the plane at a perpendicular angle
- Calculated as F=mgcos(theta)
- If a line is drawn to connect the end of the two forces to create a right angle, the hypotenuse is the weight or the total F=mg
Newton’s second law
F=mg
