Science Matter Review Sheet and Vocabulary Flashcards
What really causes matter to change from one state to another?
The particles energy.
Explain how the particles are different in the 3 states of matter discussed in class.
Solids have low energy, liquids have medium energy, and gases have high energy.
If you are using a balance for measurement, what are you most likely measuring?
The amount of matter something contains; grams
Explain why certain things have boiling and freezing points.
Boiling= the particles are getting higher energy Freezing= the particles are loosing energy
Be able to identify 3 different physical properties of paper
Flat, white, thin
Explain the difference between a physical change and a chemical change.
A physical change changes the appearance.
A chemical change usually has bubbles
How are mixtures and solutions similar? How are they different?
They both are made up of different parts. But in a solutions one thing sucks up another unlike a mixture.
Explain how density and buoyancy are related.
They depend on how heavy the object is.
How are solutes and solvents related in solutions?
Solutes suck up the solvents.
What are some every day examples of evaporation and condensation?
When I get out of the shower there is condensation on the mirror. In the summer when I leave a cup of water out the sun evaporates the water.
