Science Exam- Plants Flashcards

Q

What happens during photosynthesis?

A

Plants take in 3 different things for photosynthesis
Sunlight CO2 and Water. They need those things.
They take sunlight and CO2 through their leaves through little holes called stomata. Chlorophyll captures the CO2 and sunlight which create Glucose and oxygen.

Q

What does a plant do with glucose and oxygen

A

Plants get rid of oxygen since it is a waste product to them

Plants use glucose in produce energy

  • Grow
  • Reproduce
  • Heal

Q

How does the plants absorb water?

A

Through osmosis, it is the movement from a high concentration to a low concentration through a semi-pemable membrane
Osmosis occurs through the roots and stem

Q

How does osmosis keep a low concentration

A

Water is transported from and through the roots to the rest of the plant via the xylem

Q

What are the functions of roots

A

Absorption- To absorb water and minerals from the soil
Anchorage- To stabilise the plant and stop it from falling over
Transport- To move water to the rest of the plant

Q

What is the process water and nutrients go through the root cells

A

Water and minerals are taken in by root hairs
They are passed from cell to cell
In the stem water is transported to the rest of the plant via Xylem
Minerals, water, and glucose is transported by phloem

Q

What is in a animal cell

A

Nucleus- Contains DNA and controls cell
Cytoplasm- helps fill the cell and keeps things in place
Cell membrane- Keeps cell together and controls what goes in and out
Golgi body- Makes protein

Q

What is in a plant cell

A

Nucleus- Contains DNA and controls cell
Cell membrane- Keeps cell together and controls what goes in and out
Mitochondria- Controls respiration and makes energy
Vacuole- Holds materials and wastes, provides structure and support for growing plants
Cell Wall- Acts as a skeleton for plants and keeps things together
Chloroplasts- Work to convert sunlight into glucose
