Q

What us static electricity?

A

We can get static electricity when we build up a charge (ie a balloon rubbed against hair, shoes on carpet) This can lead to a sudden discharge or electric shock as electrons move between the 2 substances

Q

What is electricity?

A

A form of energy. It is the flow of charged particles

Electricity travels rapidly and can be converted into light, sound, heat and kinetic energy

Q

Opposite and like charges

A

Opposite charges is when there is a proton and electron. Opposite charges attract each other
Like charges are a electron and electron or proton and proton. Like charges repel

Q

Why do we have lightning rods

A

Because lightning always hit the highest point. This is because it is the least distance to travel and tries to find the easiest way down to the ground

Q

What is current?

A

The amount of charge passing a point in a certain amount of time
We can say current flows from +ve to -ve terminal f the battery but it is actually the other way around

Q

What is voltage?

A

The symbol for voltage is V (volts)
It is the amount of push around the circuit or through a component
It is measure by a voltmeter, it goes in parallel

Q

What is resistance?

A

Its how hard it is for charge to flow
Symbol: R
Measured in Ohms, the greek letter omega
We use: V=IR
