Science Chapter 9 Flashcards
1
Q
Define “motion”
A
The change in an object’s position
(with respect to the position of other objects)
2
Q
Define “force”
A
a push or a pull that can change the motion of an object
3
Q
What is Newton’s first law of motion?
A
A body at rest remains at rest, a body in motion remains in motion
unless acted on by an external force
4
Q
What is Newton’s second law of motion?
Define and give equation.
A
Acceleration is directly proportional to force
and inversely proportional to mass (F = ma or a = F/m)
5
Q
What is Newton’s third law of motion
A
For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction.
This means that when two objects interact, they exert equal but opposite forces on each other.
