Science, Cardiovascular System Flashcards
1
Q
What are the main components of the cardiovascular system
A
- Heart
- Blood vessels
- Blood
2
Q
What are the two types of circulation in the cardiovascular system
A
- Pulmonary circulation
- Systemic circulation
3
Q
What is pulmonary circulation
A
- Carries blood between heart and lungs
- Deoxygenated blood leaves the right ventricle through pulmonary arteries, which transports it to the lungs
- In the lungs, the blood gives up carbon dioxide and picks up oxygen
- The oxygenated blood then returns to the left atrium of the heart through pulmonary veins
4
Q
What is systemic circulation
A
- Carries blood between heart and body
- Oxygenated blood leaves the left ventricle though the aorta
- The aorta and other arteries transport the blood throughout the body, where it gives up oxygen and picks up carbon dioxide
- The deoxygenated blood then returns to the right atrium through veins
5
Q
List the parts of the heart
A
- Left ventricle
- Right ventricle
- Left atrium
- Right atrium
- Pulmonary vein (blood from the lungs)
- Vena cava (blood from the body)
- Pulmonary artery (blood to the lungs)
- Aorta (blood to the body)
