Science Biology orginisation Flashcards
Define a tissue
A tissue is a similar group of cells working together.
Define an organ
An organ is a group of tissues working together
List 4 reasons we have a skeleton
For support ,for protection, to allow movement and to produce bone marrow
Name 3 types of joints
Hinge, ball and socket, fixed
What do muscles do to cause movement?
Contract/pull
What are antagonistic muscles?
They are pairs of muscles which act on a joint. One muscle contracts as the other relaxed
Where does gas exchange happen?
In the alveoli
Why do the lungs have million of alveoli?
They give a large surface area so diffusion can happen quickly
Describe the differences between air you breathe in and air you breathe out?
Air breathed in has more oxygen than the air you breathe out. The air you breathe out has more carbon dioxide than the air you breathe in.
What surrounds the alveoli?
Blood vessels (capillaries)
How are substances transported around the body?
In the blood
Put these into order of smallest to largest: organ tissue organ system organism cell
Cell, tissue, organ, organ system, organism
