Q

What is consumer order?

A

The animals that eat the first order consumers are the second order consumers. The animals that eat the second order are the third order etc etc first order consumers eat the producer

Q

What is the difference between a food chain and a food web?

A

A food chain only tells us part of the story of energy transfer as animals eat more more the a single species and are consumed by more than one too. A food web looks at all consumer relationships in an ecosystem and how the food chains connect together.

16
Q

What is a decomposer?

A

Decomposers break down organisms and return their nutrients to the soil and atmosphere so they can be taken up by plants and other living things

17
Q

Define Ecology

A

The study of the way organisms interact with other organisms and their environment.

18
Q

What are abiotic factors

A

Non living factors. Temperature, soil type, rainfall and amount of light available. Abiotic factors determine what types of living organisms can survive.

19
Q

What are tropic levels?

A

Tropic levels are levels in a food web. Producers are at the first tropic level. First order consumers are at the second tropic level. Etc.
