SCI ASIA Flashcards
What does skeletal level mean in ASIA terminology?
Level greatest vertebral damage is found
What does neurological level in ASIA mean?
Most caudal segment of spinal cord with normal sensory and motor function both sides of body.
What two components are need to be classified incomplete injury?
- If partial preservation of sensory and motor function is found below nurological level
- Includes lowest sacral segment
What is complete injury?
Absence of sensory and motor function in LOWEST sacral segment
What is ZPP?
Dermatomes and myotomes caudal to the neurological level that remain partially innervated/ (used only in completes)
Give the 6 examples of incomplete syndromes
Conus Medularis Syndrome Cauda Equina Syndrome Anteiror Cord syndrome Brown Squidward syndrome Central Cord syndrome Posterior cord syndrome
What is ASIA A complete?
No motor or sensory function perserved in sacral segment S4-S5
What is ASIA B incomplete?
Sensory BUT no motor preserved below level and includes sacral segment s4-s5
ASIA C?
Incomplete; Motor function preserved below neuro level. More than half key muscles below near level have mmg below 3
ASIA D?
Motor intact below near level. At least half of key muscles below neuro level mmg greater than 3.
ASIA E
Normal
How is motor level determined?
Lowest key muscle with 3/5 or greater. ALL KEY muscle above that level have 5/5
May differ by side of body..
What is the motor level? Left Right C5 5 5 C6 5 4 C7 3 4 C8 2 3 T1 0 0
Left C7, right C6.
According to ASIA what are key muscles (UE)?
Elbow Flexors Wrist Extensors Elbow Extensors Finger Flexors Finger Abductors
According to ASIA what are key muscles (LE)
Hip Flexors Knee Extensors Ankle Dorsiflexors Long toe extensors Ankle Plantar Flexors
