The loss of contact with reality, usually including false beliefs about what is taking place or who one is (delusions), and seeing or hearing things that aren’t there (hallucinations)

Patient meets criteria for schizophrenia in addition to meeting criteria for major depression, a manic or mixed episode
Patient must have 2 weeks of delusions or hallucinations with the absence of mood symptoms
Symptoms of the mood disorder are present for a substantial part of the illness
Schizoaffective Disorder
Delusions are present at least 1 month-things that occur in real life such as being followed, poisoned, infected, loved at a distance, having a deceived, or being deceived by a significant other
Outside of the delusions, behavior is not odd, bizarre or impaired
Patient has never meet criteria for schizophrenia
Delusional Disorder
delusions that another person, usually higher status is in love with the person
Erotomanic delusional disorder
