Requires the presence of at least one positive symptom for any diagnosis
What is needed for a diagnosis of schizophrenia according to the ICD-11?
To or more negative symptoms are sufficient for a diagnosis
What are positive symptoms ?
Positive symptoms of schizophrenia are additional experiences beyond those of ordinary existence for example - hallucinations and delusions
What are negative symptoms?
Negative symptoms of schizophrenia involve the loss of usual abilities and experiences - speech poverty and avolition
ICD- 11 has 5 subtypes DSM of schizophrenia what are they ?
- Disorganised
- Catatonic
- Paranoid
- Undifferentiated
- Residual
What is disorganised (herbepherntic) type of schizophrenia?
Must have all disorganised speech, disorganised behaviour, flat or inappropriate affect and does not meet criteria for catatonic type
What is catatonic type of schizophrenia?
Immobility or stupor excessive motor activity that is apparently purposeless, extreme negativity, strange voluntary movement as evidenced by posturing stereotyped movements, prominent mannerisms or prominent grimacing
What is paranoid type of schizophrenia?
Preoccupation with one or more delusions or frequent auditory hallucinations. No disorganised speech disorganised or catatonic behaviour or flat or inappropriate
What is undifferentiated type of schizophrenia?
Variation between symptoms not fitting into a particular type.
What is residual type of schizophrenia?
Absence of prominent delusions hallucinations disorganised speech and grossly disorganised or catatonic behaviour. A presence of negative symptoms
